My Passion is Business!
Building businesses from the ground up, and helping business owners cut their costs so they keep more of what they work so hard to earn.
My entrepreneurial journey started in Dunedin, New Zealand.
At 17, I bought my very first business, a retail gift shop. It taught me early that nothing happens unless you roll up your sleeves, and that every cost matters.
From there I went into banking, working in personal lending, and discovered that numbers and helping people were my thing.
In my early twenties, I crossed the Tasman and found myself on the land on the Darling Downs, where hard work and careful budgeting are simply part of life.
There, I started my own confectionery business. My Rocky Road became famous in the district and even made its way onto the shelves at Myer. It showed me what is possible when you turn a passion into a business and put in the long hours to create an exceptional product.
Years later, my banking beginnings came full circle when I became a finance broker, sitting across the table from families and business owners as they made some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I learned to listen first and to be the person on their side of the table.
Energy was the turning point.
Years working for a broker and a retailer showed me two things: most businesses had no real support with their energy costs, and the advice they got was usually driven by commissions and sales targets, rather than their interests.
That is why I started WiseUp Energy Solutions: independent, fee-for-service, and answerable only to the client. Ten years on, WiseUp manages energy for multi-site businesses across aged care, not-for-profit, RSL, cotton gins, retail property and industry, and in 2021 I was recognised with the Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Award.
I also helped build the National Customer Code for Energy Brokers, Consultants and Retailers, and co-chair its Customer Code Council, working to lift standards across the industry.
Today, everything I do comes back to one simple goal: helping business owners to understand their costs, make smarter decisions and build businesses that last.
Hello, I’m Sharon
I’m a proud mum, stepmum, and nana who spoils her grandchildren and makes no apologies for it. When I’m not with family, you’ll usually find me exploring the latest in tech and AI. I love turning complicated numbers into clear, visual dashboards that let my clients see exactly what is happening in their business at a glance.
Every career I’ve had taught me something I still use every day: how to spot a problem and build the business that solves it, how to manage money carefully, how to listen, and how to earn trust.
I bring those lessons to my clients today. I especially love working with owner-run businesses, particularly those with multiple sites, helping them take control of their energy costs. My clients include multi-site businesses across aged care, not-for-profit, RSL, cotton gins, retail property and industry.
Right now, I’m focused on growing WiseUp Energy Solutions so more business owners can get that same clarity and control.
I’m also looking to acquire an established business as the next step in my journey. If you own one and are thinking about selling, I’d love to hear from you.

Raising the standard for energy customers
Energy is one of the highest recurring costs a business carries, and one of the easiest to get wrong. I have been involved with the National Customer Code for Energy Brokers, Consultants and Retailers since day one, and today I co-chair its Customer Code Council.
The Customer Code was created after the ACCC’s Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry raised concerns about the way some third parties sell energy to businesses. Signing up is voluntary, and signatories commit to four things:
- Customer centricity: putting customers at the centre of every decision.
- Transparency: clear, accurate information so customers can choose well.
- Fit for purpose: advice and services that genuinely meet customer needs.
- Accountability: responding quickly and properly when something goes wrong.
For me it comes back to the same thing that has driven every business I have run: doing right by the customer. WiseUp Energy Solutions is a proud signatory.
“Co‑designing the Code showed me what’s possible when brokers, consultants, retailers and advocates collaborate with honesty and a genuine commitment to raising the bar. I’m proud to still be part of this journey and to keep shaping a Code that helps customers feel informed, supported and confident in their energy choices.”
Everyone Needs Strong Mentors
Some of the best decisions I’ve made came from listening to people who had already walked the path. That’s why John and I joined Aaron Sansoni’s Sansoniverse, to take our business to the next level. Being surrounded by people who challenge you, back you and hold you accountable changes the way you think about what is possible.
Mentoring has been part of my own work for a long time. As a finance broker, I loved guiding people through decisions that felt overwhelming. Today, I mentor my WiseUp clients so they become savvy buyers of energy, confident enough to ask the right questions and never fall prey to sales organisations that don’t look at the full picture.
Recognised by Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Awards
In 2022, I was honoured to be recognised at the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Awards. The awards celebrate women across Queensland who are making a real difference in business, their industries and their communities.
It was a proud moment, and a reminder of how far that 17-year-old in Dunedin with her first small business had come. More than anything, it reflects the trust my clients place in me and the long hours that go into doing the job properly.

Work with Sharon
I love a good conversation about business, whether it happens on a stage, over a coffee or on a podcast. Here are some of the ways we can work together.
Speaking
I speak to business groups, industry events and women in business audiences about building a business from scratch, reinventing your career, and taking control of your energy costs, all in plain English.
Mentoring
I mentor small business owners who want to understand their numbers, make confident decisions and stop leaving money on the table, including how to become a savvy buyer of energy.
Podcasts and Media
From a teenage business owner in Dunedin to founding WiseUp, I have plenty of stories to share. I can also talk about the energy market, rising business costs and what they mean for everyday business owners.
